Unfortunately, Movies

There comes a time, in every person’s life, where they make a blog. When I was 14, I tried to make a movie review blog on Wordpress with the genius name, “Askew Review.” After not being famous within a month, I gave up. Later, in 2017, as a 23 year old, I started a movie blog called “mlog”. You all know what happened to that.
I’m back, bitch.
In the past two years, a lot has happened. Most importantly, I adopted a cat, got really into A24 like every other film gay, and published a few articles! (Check out that portfolio site!) However, I’ve found myself really missing shit talking movies. After discussing with friends who are also big movie people and writers, they all said, what’s the harm in bringing mlog back? So, here we are.
With mlog 2.0, I’m aiming to publish two pieces a month. The aim is for one piece to be written by me and the other by a guest writer. Hopefully, pieces will be posted the 1st and the 15th of the month, but also, I’m extremely popular and funny and cute and always in demand so who knows the exact dates, but around then. If you are interested in writing for mlog, message me on Twitter or something, the only people who read this are my friends anyway. Blah blah blah, house keeping stuff.
Anyway, now that we’re done, time to talk about movies.
My personality has become a husk and I only care about two things:
Midsommar
Paddington 2
Midsommar is, as most people reading this are already rolling their eyes because I never shut up about it, is a masterpiece. All my issues I’ve had with Hereditary, Ari Aster fixed with Midsommar. The world building is beautiful, the costuming blew me away, and the raw emotion portrayed by Florence Pugh as Dani is honestly some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. I’m now a horror film bitch and I know this isn’t exactly horror, but I’ve sold my soul to this movie. I even have the overpriced bear in a cage.
As far as I’m concerned, Paddington 2 is God’s Perfect Movie. Hugh Laurie even said it’s his favorite movie he’s worked on. Also, that 100% Rotten Tomatoes score matters, big time. I’ve never seen Citizen Kane but it has nothing on my boy Paddington. I genuinely find it a shining beacon of joy in our films of usual dark themes and painful narratives. Though a children’s movie, it’s polished, well made, a joy to watch, and has a solid story. If you have three hours to watch The Irishman, you have time to watch this blessing.
At this time I will not be taking questions about how Green Book was nominated and managed to win Best Picture while Paddington 2 did not get a single Academy nomination for anything.
That’s it, I have not seen any other movies besides those two in the past two years since I wrote a mlog. Welcome back to this vanity project, now go blow off your Livejournal account from middle school.
If you think I'm funny and you're into paying writers for their work, consider buying me a Ko-fi!
